MoU Signed for a Rubbish House at Kampung Bilit, Kinabatangan

‎Bilit MoU - 27th July 2014, signing of MOU for the setting up of Kampung Fund for Kampung Bilit, Kinabatangan
On 7th July 2014, a short meeting was held by members of Kinabatangan-Corridor of Life Tourism Operators Association (KiTA) together with Jawatan Kuasa Kemajuan Dan Keselamatan (JKKK), Kampung Bilit to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) here in Sandakan.

The MoU is for the setting up a Kampung Fund for the newly appointed JKKK of the Kampung.

Currently KiTA has a self-sustainable financing mechanism whereby members self-imposed a conservation levy and contribute RM10 for every guests that stay at their respective accommodation facilities. From this pool of self imposed conservation levy collection, KiTA has agreed to contribute financially towards the setting up of this Kampung Fund.

The fund will be jointly managed by the JKKK team and KiTA. It is to carry out activities such as cleaningof rivers, roads, jetties and recreation sites within Kampung Bilit at the appropriate times. The Funds will also be used to organize sporting and social activities to foster closer relationships within the Kampung and between them and the tourism operators.

Mr. Awang Bin Aziz, Ketua Kampung Bilit who was witnessing this event was very happy. He said that this truly shows to the kampong folks that the member operators within KiTA have the kampong folks at their hearts. He hoped these two entities can always work together.

Mr Alexander Yee, president of KiTA expressed gratitude for newly formed team of JKKK towards their willingness to work together with KiTA. He hopes that this is the beginning of a long term mutually beneficial working relationship. And that through this, the kampong folks can also benefit from the tourism activities within their own kampong.

A similar kampong fund has also been set up by KiTA in the Sugai Lokan area in the beginning of this year. That fund has proven to be successful and folk within that kampong has benefited from its set up.

After the signing, Mr. Azlin Bin HjAwang, the secretary of JKKK Bilit also showed a map of a proposed site where by a rubbish collection centre can be constructed. This rubbish collection centre will serves Kampung Bilit. The construction and subsequent cost of rubbish collection will also be funded by KiTA.
